Enhanced and specular backscattering in random media
We study scalar waves probing a heterogeneous medium whose parameters are modeled in terms of a statistically isotropic random field. The medium is terminated by an oblique interface at one end (the bottom) and pressure release type boundary conditions at the other end (the top). The tilt of the (bottom) interface is relatively small so that the dominant contributions to the wave field are conf...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Random Irregular Waves for Wave Generation in Laboratory Flumes
Understanding of wave hydrodynamics and its effects are important for engineers and scientists. Important insights may be gained from laboratory studies. Often the waves are simulated in laboratory flumes do not have the full characteristics of real sea waves. It is then necessary to present reliable methods of wave generation in wave flumes. In this paper, the results of numerically simulate...
متن کاملExperimental study of enhanced backscattering from one- and two-dimensional random rough surfaces
The phenomenon of light scattering from rough surfaces (random or otherwise) has attracted much attention, both experimentally and theoretically. This subject is of particular importance in areas that involve using a wave, either acoustic or electromagnetic, as a probe to observe material and surface properties, e.g., interpretation of radar returns (from the surface of the Earth as well as fro...
متن کاملAnalysis of hydrofoil craft in regular and irregular waves
In this article, the most important specifications of hydrofoil floats, i.e. their seakeeping under regular and irregular waves under different encounter angles of wave, has been investigated. Numerical simulation has been done using STAR CCM+ software. Surge, heave, roll and pitch motions are kept free at the same time and their effects on each other are taken into account. USV01 model, whose ...
متن کاملNotes on coherent backscattering from a random potential
We consider the quantum scattering from a random potential of strength λ and with a support on the scale of the mean free path, which is of order λ. On the basis of maximally crossed diagrams we provide a concise formula for the backscattering rate in terms of the Green’s function for the kinetic Boltzmann equation. We briefly discuss the extension to wave scattering.
